Russian has been a passion that has shown itself, hid itself for a few years, then reappeared after a length of time, and then left. Now after hide and go seek, it has shown up for the warm summer months when I had more time on my hands and now, I don't want to stop!
It might not be the best idea to spill the beans (coffee beans, pun intended), but I used to have a blog when I was learning Russian. I didn't stick with the blog for very long and I'm not sure why. Those were the days when I was still kind of blog hunting, if you will, and finding my voice. I titled the blog with a semi-Russian name, but the focus of the blog wasn't really language related, but practically everything so I guess language could somehow fit in their somewhere.
That time was my first stint with Russian, and it would be several years until I would pick it up to my surprise (hello Covid and shelter in place!). But it wouldn't last too much longer, why? Probably because I wasn't inspired anymore or felt like I wasn't seeing progress. And then I detoured to learning French and was all about French names. I didn't even turn my back on Russian to give it a glance or even a goodbye. And then somehow, it entered my life again this summer.
I was just minding my own business, on my walk and semi-running favorite route. I randomly looked back and see a man who to me looks like he's Russian. He looks very similar to a Youtuber who is Russian and is now probably a billionaire with his wife. I remember my sister and I used to watch their channel years ago and sometimes they would slip in the Russian language or culture. So, I was inspired after that walk, and wanted to start up Russian again, even if I had abandoned for 2 years. I would try to relearn and see where I left off.
Language is an outlet for me, a creative, challenging, inspiring outlet that welcomes me to create goals for myself that are different than other ones. Russian in particular is a challenging and very visual language, which I love! But like any, it takes that motivation and practice. This blog will help me do just that, stay inspired and immersed in the Russian language- even in little ways if necessary.
I'm still thinking of ideas to master this goal, but that's okay since not all ideas come at once. (Although this idea for this blog came within a matter of 5 mins!) We'll see where it will take me:)
A fun to read post! Thanks for sharing!!
